Iranian version of the attack on MP. Processes around Karabakh
Baku/30.03.23/Turan: More and more people are inclined to the version that Iran is behind the armed attack on MP Fazil Mustafa near his house on the evening of March 28.
A question arises: can Iran really go so far?
In the meantime, according to the Ministry of Defense, the commissioning of the new Lachin road has resulted in the control of several hilltops, major and auxiliary roads, as well as a vast border area between the villages of Jagazur and Zabukh in the Lachin region. What processes are ongoing around Karabakh?
These and other questions are answered by political observer Elkhan Shahinoglu in the "Hard Question" program.
To his thinking, the Iranian version of the assassination attempt on Milli Majlis MP Fazil Mustafa is really on the minds of the public and the expert community.
"There are objective reasons for this. Fazil Mustafa himself later told journalists in the hospital that he has no enemies and is inclined to believe that Iran was behind the armed attack on him.
Note that F. Mustafa is also one of those MPs who have consistently been highly critical of Iran's policies. That is why the public and political experts are inclined towards the Iranian version," the political scientist noted.
He recalled that there have been such attacks before.
"An Iranian trace was also found in the assassination of academician Ziya Buniatov, the Hizbullah organization was mentioned. It should not be overlooked that a powerful Iranian network of agents operated in Azerbaijan since 1991," Shahinoglu said. Also, he noted that after the second Karabakh war, relations between Azerbaijan and Iran deteriorated significantly, and Iranian provocations began.
The expert explained that "Iran held military exercises on the border, the other day an Iranian military plane carried out a flight along the state border of Azerbaijan, the IRGC from time to time distributes anti-Azerbaijani videos in social networks, earlier the Embassy in Tehran was attacked, a young Azerbaijani citizen mysteriously disappeared in Iran. That is why one should not be surprised that the attack on the deputy is perceived as a continuation of the provocations."
In his view, Iran is trying to intimidate the people of Azerbaijan.
"A question remains: Why Iran is escalating these provocations with Azerbaijan? While with other countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Iran is seeking to normalize relations with them. These days Iran has reached an understanding with Saudi Arabia in Beijing, and held talks with representatives of its bitter enemy Israel in Hong Kong. Perhaps these provocations are intended to intimidate the Azerbaijani society," he said.
When it comes to the Azerbaijani Armed Forces' gaining control over several high dominating heights, main and secondary roads and the border area in the Lachin region, the expert said: "This is done so that Armenia will not have uncontrolled communication with Khankendi. Soon a checkpoint will be established on the border, so they will be able to travel from Khankendi to Yerevan and back, but will not be able to carry weapons and ammunition, nor carry out rotation of the bandit formations."
