Is Iran turning into a source of threat for Azerbaijan?
Baku/31.01.23/Turan: The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry called on the country's citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran after the terrorist attack against the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran and due to instability in this country.
"Given the unstable situation in Iran and the terrorist act against the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan, we recommend that Azerbaijani citizens refrain from traveling to Iran unless absolutely necessary, and in case of visiting, exercise great caution," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Azerbaijani citizens currently in Iran are advised to take precautionary measures.
The political observer Sadreddin Soltan commented on this situation in the “Difficult Question” program. In his opinion, Iran is clearly a source of threat to the region.
“This will become obvious if we trace the current activities of the Iranian authorities. Iran has been implementing its questionable non-transparent nuclear program for more than thirty years. This program is fraught with a threat not only in the form of missiles with nuclear warheads aimed at any country, but also for the ecology of the countries of the region. Where does Iran put waste from uranium enrichment? How does it dispose of them? How does this affect the environment? Are environmental requirements met for disposal? There are no answers to these questions,” Soltan said.
According to the political scientist, several years ago, residents of Ardabil (South Azerbaijan) province of Iran bordering Azerbaijan stated that uranium enrichment wastes are buried in wells dug in this province. “This means that these wastes pose a threat both to the residents of Ardabil and to residents of regions bordering Iran, Northern Azerbaijan,” the expert stressed. Soltan also stressed. That Iran is a terrorist state, a sponsor of terrorism.
“The attack on the Azerbaijani embassy is just one episode in a series of terrorist acts committed by Iran. Rane Iran carried out a terrorist attack against the US embassy in Iraq. After the revolution, on November 4, 1979, the US embassy was captured in Tehran. American diplomatic workers were held hostage for 444 days. There were attacks on the Saudi Arabian embassy in Tehran and the Saudi consulate in Mashhad. Iran is also involved in the bombing on July 18, 1994, near the building of the Argentine Jewish Cultural Center,” he recalled.
Soltan also drew attention to the fact that Iran violates the territorial integrity of other states. “This list includes events in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, relations between Iran and Israel, interference in the internal affairs of Palestine. In addition, Iran is trying to export the "Islamic revolution" to neighboring countries. Therefore, the threat posed by Iran to the neighbors is obvious,” Soltan said. -0—
