Is the Academy of Sciences a "Temple of Science" or a den of intrigue?
Baku/27.01.22/Turan: Tensions and disagreements in the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS) do not stop. After the head of the Institute of History of ANAS, Kerim Shukurov, made a statement regarding the activities of ANAS President Ramiz Mehdiyev and resigned, many public figures, deputies and even well-known politicians intervened in this matter.
Everyone took up arms against Ramiz Mehdiyev. It turned out that a bad situation has formed in ANAS. It turned out that the Academy of Sciences, considered the center of science, has turned into a structure full of financial fraud and intrigue. After the election of Ramiz Mehdiyev as President of ANAS, disputes around this institution do not stop.
Panah Hussein, former prime minister, chairman of the People's Party of Azerbaijan, who used to work at ANAS, talks about all these issues in the "Difficult Question" program.
According to him, Ramiz Mehdiyev is guilty of the situation in ANAS. After his appointment as President of the Academy in 2019 (although the post of President of ANAS is elective, it is no secret that he is actually appointed), this structure, which was quite politicized before, will become even more politicized.
“Because rumors spread about dual power in the country. Since both opponents and supporters of Mehdiyev began to spread rumors that he still rules the country, but now from ANAS. This was followed by statements and articles by Mehdiyev on the website of ANAS, which had absolutely nothing to do with science. Thus, ANAS has become an arena of internal power intrigues. This process continues now,” the ex-premier said.
In his opinion, the latest conflict in ANAS is in a certain sense artificial, since it has nothing to do with science.
“The process of removing Mehdiyev from office is underway. Mehdiyev is an elderly man and he no longer has the same energy. Therefore, he is no longer able to weave intrigues as he did before. You can see it,” he said.
According to Panah Hussein, the conflict between Kerim Shukurov and Ramiz Mehdiyev is artificial, because even before that, persons associated with certain groups in the upper echelons of power attacked Ramiz Mehdiyev. Therefore, it is obvious that this is the work of those who wish to eliminate it.
“It seems to me that the initiators of this conflict is the opponents of Ramiz Mehdiyev. MP Etibar Huseynov, when discussing the draft state budget, said that ANAS should be abolished, or at least serious reforms are needed there. It is known that Etibar Aliyev is connected with the young appointees of President Ilham Aliyev,” Panah Hussein said, adding that Kerim Shukurov is also associated with certain groups and therefore it is appropriate to note here that the current intrigue is not domestic and is clearly political in nature.--0--
