ADB to Finance Improvement of Regional Water Supply in Azerbaijan
The allocation of the fourth tranche ($ 75 million) to official Baku has been approved to improve water supply and sanitation in the regions of Azerbaijan.
That is the verdict of the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) Board of Directors, for the seventh consecutive year financing the loan program in this sphere - this time the investment will affect the cities of Agdash and Beylagan. The total cost of the said cycle, involving the construction of treatment facilities in both urban and infrastructure development, is $ 100 million, of which $ 25 million will be paid by the local government.
Recall, the program approved by the ADB Board of Directors on September 23, 2009 will cost the Asian bankers a total of $ 600 million plus one-third of this amount from the Azerbaijani state budget. The international financial institution has already allocated $ 525 million under three tranches. Now it's up to the latest development of $ 75 million.
Together, the ADB and the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan are expected to improve the quality of water supply and sanitation for half-million population of several regions of the country.
Azerbaijan has been a member of the ADB since 1999. During this time, the national government has been allocated $ 2,321,620,000 in loans for the development of 59 projects, plus another $ 22 million for the implementation of 32 projects in the framework of technical assistance. --17D-
