Diplomacy of SOCAR: gas in exchange for land

SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) has cleared earlier statements by its President Rovnag Abdullayev about possible gas supplies to Armenia.

According to the website of SOCAR, the issue of gas supplies to Armenia may be considered "in the event of changes in the position of Armenia on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan."

The document states that Armenia isolated itself from regional cooperation, "choosing the path of aggressive separatism and nationalism, and using the policy of aggression and occupation, captured a significant part of the ancestral lands of Azerbaijan."

Rejecting the liberation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia is against the vital interests of the people, and prevents the development of their country and the region in general.

"If Armenia changes its position on the occupied territories, delivers a solution for the conflict by peaceful means, and most importantly - in the framework of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, it may be involved in energy projects of regional and global importance," the SOCAR statement says.  -06D –
