Fighting Corruption in Q1 Limited to Fight against Bribery and Misappropriation
In Azerbaijan most corruption in Q1 was revealed in the private sector, the Head of the Anti-Corruption Department under Prosecutor General's Office Kamran Aliyev said at a press conference today. Fourteen criminal cases were filed in this area. Four more cases were brought against executive power structures, 3 - in the banking sector and 2 - in the educational sphere. Two cases were brought in connection with local governments, 1 - with mobilization service, and others - with the social sphere. As can be seen from the report, the law enforcers did not touch even the middle-tier authorities and limited everything to cases on embezzlement and bribery.
The materials on 39 criminal cases, the investigation of which was completed in the first quarter, were transferred to courts. In addition, the investigation of the content of two criminal cases filed against ten people was completed in April.
The total damage on the 39 criminal cases sent to courts for further consideration amounted to 18,556,668 manat, of which 5,894,138 AZN was repaid during the preliminary investigation, which was 31.7% of the damage.
Aliyev said that in January-March the anti-corruption agency announced search for 13 people, while two were detained and handed over to the investigating authorities, and 21 citizens were put on the international wanted list.
As of April 1, the hotline 161 of the Office received 1,677 complaints. On the basis of 15 complaints criminal cases were filed under various provisions of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. --17D-

Azerbaijani internet service providers Aztelekom and Baktelekom will introduce substantial changes to their pricing structure starting August 15, the companies announced today. Under the new tariffs, the minimum internet speed will rise to 100 Mbit/s, with the cost per Mbit/s decreasing from 0.45 AZN to 0.25 AZN. As a result, monthly charges will be set at 25 AZN for 100 Mbit/s, 30 AZN for 150 Mbit/s, and 36 AZN for 250 Mbit/s.
