Fish that disappeared from the shelves appeared in the SSC

Baku/02.10.13/Turan : State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan published reports on the catch and consumption of fish per capita for 2012. According to these data, the population eats fish almost as much as the chicken. Experts have questioned the data , aimed at forming an opinion that the diet in the country in line with international standards.

According to the State Statistics Committee, in 2012 in Azerbaijan were caught 57,667 tonnes of fish , which is 22.5 % more than in the previous year. In this case, statistics do not hide the fact that 97.6 % of the fish accounted for uncontrolled fishing by individuals . In the recent 2000 poaching catching attributed to no more than 1% of the catch. In those years, due to the quota provided to Azerbaijan , and at the expense of inland water bodies were caught 18.8 thousand tons of fish - mostly sprat . In the following years due to reduced populations of sprat quotas were reduced . In the past year, for example , the amount of fishing quota amounted to only 910 tons. This is 14.3 % less than in 2011 .

According to these data , the population spent in 2012 on fish excluding imports about 400 million manat. Meanwhile, the volume of imports of fish and fish products is not small . Only in 2009-2012 in Azerbaijan were caught about 200 000 tonnes of fish. Experts emphasize that Azerbaijan has not as many fish as stated in the official records. These fantastic figures were not even in the Soviet period.

For comparison, in 2000 the figure was 4.5 kg and thereafter remained at the level of 6.6-6.9 kg . Citizens are aware of the benefit of fish for their health. However, the price of fresh fish has always been at the level of beef and broiler bird is twice cheaper.
