Import of Household Air Conditioners Increases by One Third
In the first half of this year, import of household air conditioners into Azerbaijan grew by 32.5%, against a background of virtually no local production.
According to the State Customs Committee, 21.3 thousand household air conditioners were imported in this period. Air conditioners were imported at an average price of $ 450 each, which was $ 190 more expensive than a year earlier.
Total imports of air conditioners amounted to $ 9.6 million, which was $ 5.4 million more than in the first half of 2014. This product comes mainly from China, Thailand, South Korea and Turkey.
The volume of imports of spare parts and accessories ($ 8,687,800) for air conditioning was 9.7 thousand tons, or 5.4 thousand tons more than in the same period in 2014. In value terms, imports amounted to $ 17.8 million (+ $ 9.1 million). According to the State Statistics Committee, in the first half of 2015, 180 household air conditioners were assembled in Azerbaijan, and the warehouses of the producer (the Azerelektronika plant of household devices in the Shamakhi district) accumulated 2,200 pieces of unsold products from 2014 by July 1.
Recall that in 2013, Azerbaijan produced 9,435 household air conditioners, 64.8% more than in 2012. ----08B

In late February, the governments of Pakistan and Azerbaijan are expected to sign an investment agreement worth $2 billion, which will include several projects with SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan). According to Turan, the energy cooperation projects discussed in January in Islamabad and Baku will feature in the agreement. These projects include energy efficiency initiatives, the construction of a pipeline, and SOCAR’s plans to explore the creation of underground gas storage facilities in Pakistan, as well as documents provided by the Pakistani side related to the exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons in the country.
