In January-August, Azerbaijan increased gas exports by 8%
Baku/15.09.23//Turan: Azerbaijan's gas exports have experienced a robust uptick in the first eight months of 2023, bolstered by increased production from the prolific "Shah Deniz" gas field. According to data released by the State Committee on Statistics of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the country exported a total of 14 billion 589.9 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas from January to August 2023, marking an impressive 8.4% growth compared to the same period in the previous year.
The "Shah Deniz" field, a cornerstone of Azerbaijan's energy portfolio, played a pivotal role in this surge. Gas exports from the "Shah Deniz" field constituted a substantial 53.8% of the overall volume of gas transported through the main gas pipelines during the first eight months of 2023. This underscores the field's significance as a major contributor from Azerbaijan's gas export capacity.
In the broader context of Azerbaijan's energy landscape, the main gas pipelines of the country transported a staggering 27 billion 109.8 mcm of gas from January to August 2023, representing a notable 6.2% increase over the same period in the previous year. This surge in gas transportation reflects the country's continued commitment to energy diversification and expansion of its gas export capabilities.
It is worth noting that the momentum in gas exports from the "Shah Deniz" field has been building steadily. In 2022, the field contributed significantly to Azerbaijan's energy exports by delivering a total of 20 billion 803.7 mcm of gas, marking an impressive 18.1% increase compared to the previous year.
The "Shah Deniz" field's gas is currently finding its way to multiple international destinations, including neighboring Georgia and Turkey, as well as to European nations such as Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania. This diversified export strategy underscores Azerbaijan's growing importance as a regional energy player with the ability to supply gas to both neighboring countries and distant European markets.
As Azerbaijan continues to strengthen its position in the global energy landscape, the "Shah Deniz" field remains a critical asset, driving economic growth and enhancing the country's energy security. The surge in gas exports witnessed in 2023 demonstrates the field's capacity to meet the growing energy demands of the region and beyond.-0--
