Landline companies to be given "to good hands"

In the first quarter of next year the process of converting industrial associations Aztelekom and Baku Telephone Communications (BTRIB) into a public corporation will be completed.

As reported today by Minister of Communications and High Technology, Ali Abbasov, there have already begun active discussions on this issue. A number of industrial associations, including those mentioned structures that form the infrastructure of fixed telephone communication, are audited. "In the near future we plan to engage a consultant to ensure that the maximum by the end of March 2015 to complete the conversion process between the two organizations in joint-stock companies," said the minister.

According to the minister, there is a need in improvement of the activities of LLC Azerpoct. An action plan is developed.

According to Turan’s experts, the company has brought real income to the Ministry of Communications. Usually the conversion of enterprises with one hundred percent state capital in the JSC and other joint-stock companies means moving them under the curation of high-ranking officials, and often - the family members of the President. All enterprises airline, gold and mining industry, mobile operators, energy, not to mention the oil production, in one form or another copied to the ruling Aliyev family and their close relatives.

The Production Union Aztelekom is part of the Ministry of Communications and is engaged in providing fixed telephony in Azerbaijan (except Baku). The Production Union Baku Telephone Communications is doing the same in the capital and surrounding areas.

The state enterprise Azerpoct was created on September 23, 1999. On 15 August 2009 it was transformed into LLC Azerpoct. On April 16, 2010 the Central Bank of Azerbaijan has given the society a limited license for the provision of banking and financial services. --17D-
