Livestock numbers increased by about 20%
As of July 1, the number of cattle in Azerbaijan amounted to 2,724,100 head, an increase compared with the same period last year by 1%. The production of meat in live weight increased 1.9%.
According to the State Statistics Committee, in the last 10 years the number of cows and buffalos increased by 20.5% and reached 2,707,000 head at the beginning of the year. Since 2009, the government financed from the state budget importation of breeding cows dairy and beef. Also supported is the work of artificial insemination centers to improve tribal composition. In 2013, the dependence on imports of meat and meat products was 14.6%. Milk production for the six months amounted to 930 000 tons, which was 3.1% more than in the first half of 2013.
By the beginning of this year the number of sheep and goats was 8,630,500 head. This is 18.5% more than in early 2004. July 1, the number of small ruminants has exceeded 8.8 million head. At the same time demand (about 78,000 tons) of mutton at 97.8% is met by local production.
Poultry to the beginning of this year was 25.1 million head. For 10 years, their number increased by 43.4%. Only in poultry houses and broiler farms in early July there were 11,581,000 chickens, which is 47,5% more than a year earlier. During January-June factory-produced was 38,600 tons of meat (+15 000 tons) and 327.8 million eggs (+70.7 million). In 2013, the volume of imports of poultry meat dropped to historic lows (3,835 tons). According to estimates of the State Statistics Committee, in 2013 with the consumption of 100,000 tons of poultry and their products, dependence on imports was only 3.8%. - 08D-
