Meeting on Cotton Growing Held in Saatli Region
On 28 March, a meeting on the development of cotton growing took place in the Saatli district with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev.
Speaking at the meeting, the head of state said the state's plan for the development of cotton growing would not have received a wide scale if it had not been supported by the private sector and farmers. “In the coming years we will accelerate the development of this sector,” Ilham Aliyev said.
In 2016, the state bought 100 cotton harvesters, and this year it will purchase 200 more harvesters. Reclamation work was carried out at the expense of the state budget. State expenditures are estimated at hundreds of millions of US dollars.
In 2016, 88 thousand tons of cotton was harvested from 52.1 thousand hectares. This year the areas for cotton will be expanded to no less than 120 thousand hectares.
The meeting was addressed by the heads of the Executive Power of the Saatli, Barda, Beylagan, Terter and Bilasuvar regions, and the cotton companies Gilan and CTS-Agro. ----08D

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less.
