No GMO in Azerbaijan, but There Should Be...
The press service of the State Customs Committee circulated information of imported genetically modified foods (GMOs). The Committee states that all products before entering the market are thoroughly tested in specialized laboratories. Despite this, some television channels create a stir in connection with GMOs, rather than to spread the correct information. For distributors of such information, a large size of fruits and vegetables is a proof of their genetic modification. Fruit size is associated with the sort and the gloss comes from wrapping in paraffin that protects the fruits from external damage and impact.
SCC RECOMMENDS CLEANING FRUIT ARRIVING FROM ABROAD FROM HUD
The Committee reports that the world register of GMO varieties includes one variety of plums, two of apples and two of papayas. The presence of GMOs in other varieties of fruit does not yet exist.
The expert on agriculture Vahid Maharramov told Turan that "in Azerbaijan, responsible persons do not know anything about it. Currently, 28 of the developed countries of the world are leaders in the creation of GMO products. In these countries, this work is planned at the state level and is carried out as a future policy. In the world there are varieties of GMO fruits and vegetables. These include cereals, technical plants, beans, soybeans, cotton and tobacco. In America, animals and fish with altered genes also exist."
AZERBAIJAN WITHOUT GMO LOOKS LIKE BACKWARD COUNTRY
Vugar Maharramov called this area "the science of the future." He believes that in Azerbaijan the opinion formed about GMOs is not true. "GMOs, as well as nuclear weapons can be used in both for good and bad purposes. In Azerbaijan, this field of science is not paid attention. GMOs actually create a very useful and healthy variety. This creates an opportunity to increase productivity and create the conditions for human consumption is a healthy food." According to Maharramov, to clarify the presence of GMOs in imported products in Azerbaijan, there is a need for special technical base and scholars. The expert believes that now it is not present. ---- 00--
