Number of pensioners in Azerbaijan falls to lowest point since independence
Baku/19.05.23/Turan: As of April 1, Azerbaijan had 1.101.900 pensioners, which is the lowest figure for the entire thirty-year period since independence.
According to the State Statistics Committee with reference to the State Social Security Fund, in the first quarter of this year alone, 12,300 people lost their pensioner status. In 2022 the number of pensioners in Azerbaijan dropped by 86.300 people.
As of April 1 this year, 63.5% of them were old-age pensioners, 23.7% - disability pensioners. The remaining 12.8% are families, which lost their breadwinner.
Average size of labor pensions in Azerbaijan in the first quarter of this year amonted to 432.3 manats ($253.3) per month, which is up by 16.2% from the beginning of the year. According to the SSC, this makes up 48.0% of the average monthly wage in the country.
In 1991, there were 1,127,000 pensioners in Azerbaijan. In 2006, their number reached the highest point - 1,398,839. By the end of 2020 there were 1 million 270.500 people receiving occupational pensions. -08B-

This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less.
