Opening of Beekeeping Fair Scheduled for October 10
Baku / 21.09.17 / Turan: The regular exhibition and fair of Azerbaijani beekeepers will be held in the A.M.A.Y. shopping center in Baku from October 10 to November 5. This year, honey is sold 25% more expensively.
The fair is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture. Participation in the fair will be allowed only to beekeepers who receive veterinary certificates for their products.
In 2016, only 254 out of 312 beekeepers were allowed to demonstrate their products at the fair. 23.5 tons of honey and other beekeeping products were not allowed for sale. 71.7 tons of these products were sold.
According to the State Statistics Committee, honey production in Azerbaijan increased by 100 tons and reached a record of 2,700 tons in 2016. The number of bee colonies (260,000) grew by 3.5% during the year.
At present, honey is offered on average at a price of 24 manat a kilo. This is 6 manat more expensive than in September 2016. ------08B
