Russia has updated checkpoints on the border with Azerbaijan and Georgia
In a strategic move to fortify trade routes on the cusp of the New Year, Russia has unveiled significant upgrades to the Upper Lars automobile checkpoints, situated on the border with Georgia, and the Yarag-Kazmalyar checkpoint bordering Azerbaijan.
The meticulous implementation of the reconstruction project at Yarag-Kazmalyar has yielded remarkable results, catapulting its freight transport capacity by over 2 times its previous capability. The expansion is underscored by a surge in traffic lanes from 14 to 22. Notably, 2023 witnessed an important milestone with over 200 thousand cargo vehicles successfully passing through, marking a 10% increase compared to the preceding year.
Yarag-Kazmalyar has undergone a comprehensive transformation, witnessing the construction and reconstruction of more than 60 key buildings and structures. The addition of 13.5 km of external engineering networks and the paving of nearly 70 thousand m2 underscores the commitment to modernizing infrastructure. The integration of cutting-edge high-tech equipment further solidifies Yarag-Kazmalyar's position as a critical checkpoint along the Russian state border.
In response to shifting geopolitical dynamics, the North–South İTC has experienced a substantial uptick in traffic, amplifying the movement of international cargo vehicles through the Republic of Dagestan. This surge in demand prompted the expansion of existing checkpoints, with Yarag-Kazmalyar emerging as a pivotal hub on the Russian section of the state border.
The reconstruction's success not only augments the export of Russian goods but also facilitates an increase in the import of goods into Russia. The enhanced capacity of the Yarag-Kazmalyar multilateral checkpoint underscores its strategic importance in fostering seamless cross-border trade.—0—
