President Aliyev celebrates 2023 as a victorious year for Azerbaijan
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev addressed the nation with a comprehensive message on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis and conveyed sincere New Year's wishes. In his address, President Aliyev spoke about the transformative events that marked 2023 for the country.
The key point noted by Aliyev was the restoration of the state sovereignty of Azerbaijan, a historic achievement achieved as a result of a decisive one-day anti-terrorist operation. The President stressed the expulsion of the occupying forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, the victory over the enemy forces and the successful acquisition of military equipment as trophies.
Recalling the end of the Second Karabakh War in 2020, he stressed the commitment to restoring full state sovereignty, referring to the peaceful attempts made over three years. Unfortunately, Armenia's failure to fulfill its obligations and the continuation of military provocations led to the need for an anti-terrorist operation, which led to the collapse of the separatist regime, Aliyev said.
The President expressed pride in the professionalism and heroism of the Azerbaijani army, paying tribute to the memory of the martyrs and stressing that their sacrifice did not remain unavenged. He stressed the eradication of separatism and the continued commitment to protecting Azerbaijan's borders.
Presenting an overview of post-war events, Aliyev highlighted the large-scale reconstruction efforts in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, stressing the importance of the return of displaced persons to their native lands. The President announced plans for the full restoration of additional settlements in 2024, which will ensure continuous progress in the reconstruction of the country.
Speaking about economic achievements, Aliyev praised the country's independent economy and the strengthening of the armed forces. He announced significant investments in domestic military production and highlighted Azerbaijan's growing international standing, as evidenced by the unanimous vote to host COP29, a major international climate change conference.
Reflecting on the "Year of Heydar Aliyev", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader, the President noted the deep respect shown by various events, including the Victory Parade in Khankendi. He expressed the pride of the nation for the historic victory, the symbol of which is the "Iron Fist" (The name of the military operation conducted by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent territories in the fall of 2020), which is now a testament to the unity of Azerbaijan.
The President concluded his speech with a message of unity, pride and hope for a successful 2024. He confirmed that the Iron Fist, symbolizing victory and unity, will stand. President Aliyev wished the Azerbaijani people good health and success, expressing confidence that the coming year will be a year of triumph and prosperity.—0—
