Skype recaptures position in traditional communication
TeleGeography Research Company showed that the platform for Internet calling Skype won over a third of international telephone traffic - an absolute record for all the services of Internet telephony.
Skype is a known service that allows the Internet to make free audio and video calls, and send files and messages.
It competes with many other messengers and social networks, including Google+, which, unlike Skype, lets you organize group video for free. Microsoft-owned service like annoy users by advertising and often faces charges of violations of privacy. However, the popularity of Skype continues to grow rapidly.
Global study materials show that the total of last year's telephone traffic grew by 5% to about 490 billion minutes. However, the amount of traffic within the network Skype grew 44% to 167 billion minutes - almost a third of the market.
Pressure on the traditional Internet telecommunications operators is becoming more significant. Many users now prefer being in a Wi-Fi network, use a smart phone to make calls through Skype, rather than the traditional way.
Stephan Beckert, an analyst with TeleGeography, said the pressure on traditional companies has not only Skype, but also many other messengers - Viber, Whatsapp, Google Voice, and so on. "Skype - it's no longer a startup. Pace of development is likely to slow down over time, but now we are seeing a high and sustainable growth," he said.
Competition from Skype and similar services makes mobile operators cut prices for calls and messages by reducing the margins. For users, this is certainly a positive trend. - 17D-
