Two new vice-presidents of SOCAR appointed
Baku/11.08.21/Turan: On August 11, the head of state Ilham Aliyev signed an order on the appointment of Kenan Najafov and Zaur Gurbanov as vice presidents of the state oil company SOCAR.
Gurbanov was born in 1975 in Baku. He graduated from the Faculty of International Law of the Belarusian State University, a master's degree from the Washington College of Law, the Wharton School of Business in the USA.
He worked in the World Bank office in Azerbaijan, the American law firm “Baker Botts LLP”, investment companies “Exane BNP Paribas and “Citigroup”, as well as “Nobel Oil Ltd”.
Since 2020, he served as head of the board of the Entrepreneurship Development Fund of the Ministry of Economy.
Prior to this appointment, Zaur Gurbanov held the position of Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Azerbaijan Investment Holding. Previously, he worked as a tax director in the Azerbaijani division of the international audit company Ernst & Young.
Last month, the head of state dismissed four vice presidents of SOCAR from their posts. —06D-

The European Union (EU) has warned participants at the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 29) in Baku that any backsliding on the commitments made last year at COP 28 in Dubai regarding the transition away from fossil fuels would be unacceptable. The EU insists that a similar commitment be included in the final decisions of this year’s conference.
