Aliyev visits Tbilisi amid regional instability

U.S. President Donald Trump said there was a “good chance” of reaching an agreement between the United States and Iran as soon as Monday, despite ongoing tensions and increasingly hostile rhetoric from both sides.

A court in Tbilisi has ordered the deportation of Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Sadygov to Azerbaijan, despite a prior ban by the European Court of Human Rights on his extradition, rights groups said. According to them, the decision was made early on Saturday after the journalist was detained late on April 4. At around 4 a.m. local time, the court authorized his deportation.

Donald Trump said on Saturday that the chances of reaching a last-minute agreement with Iran before the expiration of his 48-hour ultimatum were slim, even as indirect contacts between the two sides continue.

Azerbaijan on April 4 sent 200 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Iran, marking its third such delivery since the outbreak of conflict between the United States and Israel, officials said on Saturday.
