Britain has decided to significantly expand the training program of the Ukrainian military
unian.net: The UK will significantly expand the training program of the Ukrainian military, so that it provides for the training of tens of thousands of soldiers.
The duration of the combat course has been extended from three to five weeks, most of the training will continue to take place in Britain, Sky News reports.
The basic course offered by Britain is based on infantry training. It includes handling weapons, first aid on the battlefield, camouflage and patrol tactics.
An additional two weeks will allow you to receive more advanced training, for example, in trench warfare and urban warfare, operations on vehicles and training on the battlefield in simulated combat conditions.
About 4,700 troops have already been trained at military bases in the north, south-west and south-east of England since training began in June, and commanders intend to continue support as long as Ukraine needs new troops to fight Russia.
The training is conducted by units of the 11th Security Assistance Brigade of the British Army and the Royal Air Force Regiment, together with international instructors from eight other countries, including New Zealand, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands. As British Defense Minister Ben Wallace commented, this demonstrates "a common determination to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine."
"The training course has been developing rapidly, and now we are continuing it for up to five weeks to ensure the best training of Ukrainian soldiers who will soon be ready for active combat operations," he said.
"We must do everything possible to help them protect their homes from illegal and unprovoked Russian invasion, and we will continue to do this as long as necessary," the minister stressed.
Wallace has already visited the training sites of the Ukrainian military four times, in particular, the last visit took place on Friday.
If, as expected, Liz Truss becomes Prime Minister, Ben Wallace will retain his post as Defense Minister.
As UNIAN reported, the training program for Ukrainian military personnel in Britain was offered to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson during his June visit to Kiev. Johnson clarified that the British military can provide training for up to 10 thousand Ukrainian servicemen every 120 days. On July 6, the first rotation of the Ukrainian military arrived in the UK for exercises.
