Hamas gave preliminary agreement to a truce with the release of hostages
Interfax.ru: The terrorist group Hamas has given preliminary consent to a second truce with Israel in the Gaza Strip and to the exchange of hostages and prisoners, Western media reported, citing a representative of the Qatari Foreign Ministry.
According to him, the truce agreement, which the mediators agreed with the Israeli side, was presented to the group on February 1. Previously, it was approved by the Israeli side, but now the mediators have received preliminary confirmation from Hamas.
The diplomat believes that there are "hopes for good news" regarding a potential truce "in the next few weeks."
Earlier it was reported that Israel, the United States, Egypt and Qatar at a meeting in Paris agreed on the basis of a new deal to free hostages held by the Hamas group in the Gaza Strip. The details of a possible agreement have not yet been officially announced.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, fired rockets into Israeli territory, and the group's militants carried out an incursion and killed more than 1,200 people and took more than two hundred hostages. After this, Israel launched a military operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In November 2023, through the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States, Israel and Hamas agreed to a truce during which the terrorists released 105 hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons. The truce lasted from November 24 to November 30.
