In the Primorsky region, deputies from the Communist Party demanded to stop the war in Ukraine
DW: A group of deputies from the Communist Party of the Legislative Assembly of Primorsky Krai made an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin, demanding to stop the war in Ukraine and withdraw troops from the neighboring country. In a video posted on a local Telegram channel Newsbox24.tv On Friday, May 27, it is seen that at a meeting of the parliament, Deputy Leonid Vasyukevich reads out an appeal stating that "it is impossible to achieve success by military means."
Recalling that the local authorities have recently taken a set of measures to support the families of servicemen who died during the "military operation", he pointed out: "We understand that if our country does not stop the military operation, there will be even more orphans in our country. During the military operation, young people who could be of great benefit to our country are dying and becoming disabled."
"We demand the immediate withdrawal of troops," insists a group of four deputies of the regional legislative assembly, stressing that the continuation of hostilities will inevitably lead to an increase in the number of dead and wounded servicemen.
The Communists' speech caused a scandal
Vasyukevich's speech was constantly being interrupted by the chairman of the Primorsky parliament, Alexander Roller, and, as reported Newsbox24.tv , made a remark to the communist deputy. But his party colleague Gennady Shulga, who also signed an anti-war appeal to Putin, stood up for the speaker.
According to Kommersant, Governor Oleg Kozhemyako called for Vasyukevich and Shulga to be "taken out of the hall," saying that their actions "defame the Russian army and our defenders who stand in the fight against Nazism," and calling Vasyukevich a "traitor." The publication writes that as a result, the legislative assembly deprived both Communist deputies of the right to vote at the current meeting. 25 parliamentarians voted in support of this decision, five against it, and three more abstained.
The head of the Communist Party faction, vice-speaker of the Parliamentary Assembly of the PC Anatoly Dolgachev "disavowed the demarche of party members," notes Newsbox24.tv .
