Iran announced the creation of a "hypersonic ballistic missile"
Anadolu: Iran has announced the creation of a "hypersonic ballistic missile" capable of destroying moving marine vehicles and flying 8 times faster than the speed of sound.
According to the Iranian Fars news agency, this was announced at an event in Tehran by the head of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, General Mohammed Bakiri.
The General noted that the missile test tests were successful.
Iran has become one of three countries with such missiles, he said.
Bakiri claims that the speed of a ballistic missile is mach 8 (8 times the speed of sound), and its range is 1,500 kilometers.
The presence of such a missile in the arsenal will allow creating a security zone in the seas around the country with a radius of up to a thousand kilometers, said the head of the Iranian General Staff of the Armed Forces.
At the same time, Bakyri did not provide information about when and where the missile was tested.
On November 10, 2022, the commander of the Air Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, General Emir Ali Hajizadeh, announced that Iran had developed a new ballistic missile.
Hypersonic weapons are missile weapons capable of flying in the atmosphere at a hypersonic speed (greater than or equal to 5 M or 6000 km/h or 1.6 km/s) and maneuvering using aerodynamic forces. They cannot be intercepted by air defense systems.
