Mango Group founder Andik died in the mountains near Barcelona
DW: One of the richest people in Spain - the founder of the company-manufacturer of fashion clothing Mango Isak Andik - died in an accident in the mountains near Barcelona. This was reported by world agencies on Saturday, 14 December.
The website of the Mango concern published a black-and-white photo of the entrepreneur with the dates of his life: 1953 - 2024. The Spanish state TV channel RTVE and other media reported with reference to Andik's family that the tragedy occurred during a family walk in the mountains of Monserrat, about 40 kilometres north-west of Barcelona. Around midday on 14 December, Andik slipped in the saltpetre caves of the town of Colbato and fell from a height of 150 metres.
The fortune of Isak Andik, a Spanish businessman with Turkish roots, is estimated at 3 billion euros. Nature walks and mountain climbing were his favourite hobbies. The head of Catalonia's regional administration, Salvador Ilha, wrote on social network X that Andik's death shocked him.
Istanbul-born Isak Andik's family emigrated to Spain in 1969. In 1984, Andik founded Punto Fa, S.L with his brother Nahman, the same year they opened the first Mango women's clothing shop in Barcelona. According to the agency dpa, by the end of 2023, Mango brand clothing was sold in 2,700 outlets in 120 countries. In 2023, turnover from these sales reached a record €3.1bn, exceeding 2022 figures by 15%.
