Baku/03.10.21/Turan: The second rounds of mayoral elections will be held in at least 20 cities of Georgia, according to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission (CEC). According to these results, the second rounds will be assigned to the five largest cities in the country: Tbilisi, Rustavi, Batumi, Zugdidi and Kutaisi. The entire list of 20 cities where the second tours are likely to take place: Tbilisi, Kareli, Khashuri, Kutaisi, Bagdati, Chiatura, Tskhaltubo, Tsageri, Zugdidi, Tsalenjikha, Chkhorotsku, Khobi, Senaki, Martvili, Poti, Ozurgeti, Batumi, Khelvachauri, Rustavi, Telavi.
In all cases, the struggle will continue between the candidates of the ruling Georgian Dream and the country's largest opposition party, the United National Movement, reports Georgia-online. In these elections, heads of city and district assemblies are elected, as well as mayors of 64 municipalities, including Tbilisi.
43 political parties are taking part in the elections. City and district assemblies in Georgia are staffed according to a mixed system - proportional and majority. The passage barrier for the Tbilisi City Council is 2.5 percent, for the rest of the municipalities - 3 percent. The elections are of particular importance for Georgia also because their outcome will determine the fate of the ruling party and government. In accordance with the agreement, which, through the mediation of the head of the European Council Charles Michel, concluded in spring Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia with the opposition to get out of the crisis, if it fails to gain 43 percent of the votes in the country as a whole, it undertakes to call early parliamentary elections in the spring of 2022. — 0—
