Turkey's first astronaut arrives at space station
Reuters: Turkey’s first astronaut was welcomed aboard the International Space Station.
“We are happy - as Turkiye - to step, for the first time in our history, and looking forward to contribute to the science and research efforts over here”, said Alper Gezeravci, Astronaut.
Alper Gezeravci is part of a four-man crew set to work on dozens of experiments.
The mission was arranged entirely at commercial expense by Texas-based startup Axiom Space.
"This is an incredibly exciting time for human space flight with the third private mission which is allowing many more countries to participate in the scientific research and development that we do on board this orbiting laboratory", said Andreas Mogensen, ISS Commander.
The vessel and rocket that carried it to orbit are from Elon Musk’s SpaceX
