Baku/14.04.22/Turan: As a result of a night strike by two Neptun missiles, the Ukrainian military blew up the most powerful and ship of the Russian Black Sea fleet, the "Moskva".
As a result of the missiles hitting the ship, the warhead detonated.
Following the heavy damage the ship tilted on its side and sank near the Snake Island, Russian and Ukrainian sources reported.
According to unofficial data, there were 510 crew members on board. Russian mass media claimed that all of them were rescued. However, according to unofficial data, just about 50 people were saved.
The Russian side does not acknowledge the hit of the ship by Ukrainian missiles as stating that "there was a fire."
"Neptun" is an anti-ship missile developed by Ukraine. It weighs 780 kg, is 5.5 meters long and has a 150 kg payload. The missile is designed to hit at a distance of up to 280 km. Russia's Defence Ministry said a fire on the "Moskva" missile cruiser caused ammunition to blow up, Interfax news agency reported.
It did not say what caused the fire but Maksym Marchenko, the Ukrainian governor of the region around the Black Sea port of Odesa, said the "Moskva" had been hit by two Ukrainian-made Neptune anti-ship cruise missiles.
"Neptune missiles guarding the Black Sea caused very serious damage," he said in an online post.
Ukraine's Defence Ministry did not respond to a request for comment and Reuters was unable to verify either side's claims.
Recall that the "Moskva" is the second major ship known to have suffered serious damage since the start of the war. Last month Ukraine said it had destroyed a landing support ship, the Orsk, on the smaller Sea of Azov.
Russia's navy has launched cruise missiles into Ukraine and its operations in the Black Sea are crucial to supporting land operations in south and east Ukraine.
Russian news agencies said the "Moskva" commissioned in 1983, was armed with 16 anti-ship "Vulkan" cruise missiles with a range of at least 700 km (440 miles).-0-

In Earth's upper atmosphere, a fast-moving band of air called the jet stream blows with winds of more than 275 miles (442 km) per hour, but they are not the strongest in our solar system. The comparable high-altitude winds on Neptune reach about 1,200 miles (2,000 km) per hour. Those, however, are a mere breeze compared to the jet-stream winds on a planet called WASP-127b.
