A deputy from the ruling party of Armenia apologized for burning the flag of Azerbaijan
Baku/14.04.23/Turan: Armenian MP from the ruling Civil Contract party Hovik Aghazaryan on his Facebook page condemned the burning of the flag of Azerbaijan at he opening ceremony of the European Championship in Yerevan.
"I apologize to the entire international civilized community for not doing everything possible as a citizen and parliamentarian to completely eradicate the manifestations of wild and cannibalistic tribes in my people. I am ashamed," the deputy wrote.
At the same time, the organizers of the competition and the Armenian authorities did not condemn the incident. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Armenia believes that "the incident was quickly resolved." As for the refusal of the Azerbaijani team to participate in the championship, the ministry called it "problematic from the point of view of sports ethics."
Meanwhile, the culprit of the incident, Aram Nikolyan, an employee of the Public Television of Armenia, was not punished. He was held by the police for two hours and released without any sanctions.
Nicolyan's act was supported by many public and political figures of Armenia. Thus, Serzh Sargsyan's deputy for the Republican Party and former Minister of Education of Armenia Armen Ashotyan wrote on his Facebook page that "Aram Nikolyan burned not the flag of Azerbaijan, but the symbol of nationalism." ---0---
