A railway will be built in Shusha and Nakhchivan, an airport in Kalbajar
Baku/07.01.21/Turan: “The existing roads to Shusha are currently used by the Azerbaijani side, however, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers. This concerns the Lachin road and the road through the Red Bazaar to Shusha. In the future, we will, of course, freely use them, including the Aghdam-Khankendi-Shusha road, which is provided for by the statement on November 10,” President Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting following the results of 2020 on January 6.
At the same time, he noted the need to build a new road to Shusha, which is needed now. The Fizuli-Shusha road is a difficult project due to the mountainous terrain, but work is underway and it will be completed earlier than planned, Aliyev said.
Another important project is the Toganaly-Kalbajar road. “This is an even more difficult terrain, some parts of which pass at an altitude of 3500 meters. Therefore, it is planned to build tunnels and this road will last until Lachin,” Aliyev said. In addition, the possibility of building an international airport in this region is being considered, he added.
“It is planned to start construction of the Fizuli-Shusha railway this year. It will be launched when the population returns to Shusha,” Aliyev said.
Work is underway to open a railway to Nakhchivan. This is stipulated by the November 10 statement and will definitely be implemented, Aliyev stressed. “This will give new breath to the entire region and the road can be used by Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Armenia and Iran. This road will be of great importance for multilateral cooperation.
Considering that the railways of Armenia belong to Russia, Russia is our partner in this case, and negotiations in this direction are going well,” Aliyev said. -03D-
