Baku/23.08.22/Turan: A trilateral meeting of the ministers responsible for transport field of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia was held in Tbilisi. The meeting participanst discussed issues of wider use of the potential of the "Middle Corridor", increasing the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which is an integral part of this transport artery, and the formation of a single tariff policy for transit cargo transportation. During the discussion, the importance of synchronizing joint operations in order to ensure a stable growth in transit cargo flows was especially emphasized.
The parties exchanged views on the growing interest in the "Middle Corridor": in the first half of this year, freight traffic increased by 15% compared to the same period last year. It was noted that the demand for the North-West corridor has increased almost by three times compared to the corresponding period last year. Namely, over the first 6 months of this year, the volume of transit cargo along this corridor amounted to 1 million 300 thousand tons.
The meeting participants stressed the intensified efforts of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia to increase the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, which is of vital importance in the "Middle Corridor". Confidence was expressed that joint efforts and effective cooperation would make it possible to overcome the difficulties arising in the transport sector.
Also, during his visit to Georgia, Minister Rashad Nabiev held a bilateral meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili. The parties discussed the launch of a container block train between the ports of Poti and Batumi and the port in Alyat, the coordination of schedules and the unification of tariffs, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan reported.
