Accusations of Western Involvement in Ukrainian Strikes on Crimea Fuel Tensions
Baku/29.08.23/Turan: The recent endorsement of Kiev's military actions against Crimea by Western powers constitutes a significant and legally binding piece of evidence implicating the West in the conflict against Russia. This assertion was made by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, in a statement on his Telegram channel.
Medvedev drew attention to statements made by Kiev, suggesting their coordination of "any strikes" targeting Russian interests, including in Crimea. "If these claims are accurate (and there seems to be little reason to doubt them now), this forms a concrete and legally significant substantiation of Western involvement in the war against Russia, aligned with the government led by Stepan Bandera. A nuanced casus belli, this also provides Russia with the grounds to act within the framework of jus ad bellum against any and all NATO member states," the Russian politician remarked.
As a conclusion, Medvedev referenced quotes from notable figures of the Soviet era, including one from the final book of the New Testament, Revelation, attributed to John the Theologian, commonly referred to as the Apocalypse. "In those days men will seek death, but they will not find it; they will wish to die, but death will flee from them" (Revelation 9:6).
"We are remembered as long as we interfere with others" (V.I. Lenin).
"Like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you." (N.S. Khrushchev), he cited.
Earlier, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Mikhail Podolyak, had announced a consensus reached with international partners concerning the "elimination of all things Russian" within occupied territories, including Crimea.
"Today, there is unanimous consent that we can eradicate everything of Russian origin, for instance, in Crimea. Allow me to recall that just a year ago, even during minor incidents in Crimea, the prevailing sentiment was 'No, let's avoid that.' Today, I have an absolute consensus, with the same number of countries supporting us, that we are empowered to eliminate all Russian presence within the occupied territories," Podolyak declared.
Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, also responded to the statements made by the advisor to the President of Ukraine, in an interview with Izvestia.
"It's no secret, which is why we label such a policy as Russophobia, and its Western proponents as unfriendly regimes," remarked the Russian diplomat.
