Action of Family Members of Persons Involved in Terter Case
Baku / 09/06/19 / Turan: A group of family representatives of a number of persons involved in the Terter case on Friday held a rally in front of the Ministry of Justice. They demanded to return the case to the preliminary investigation, give a legal assessment of the torture of the accused and release the arrested. After police intervention, the action was discontinued. However, representatives of the protesters were received in the Ministry of Justice.
Recall that on May 7, 2017 the General Prosecutor's Office, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a joint statement in which the detained group of military personnel and civilians were accused of espionage in favor of the Armenian special services.
According to the statement, the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of Armenia prepared a large-scale provocative action against units and settlements of the Azerbaijani army in the Terter region.
On May 3, the Military Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan opened a criminal case under article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code. A joint investigative team was created consisting of prosecutors, the Ministries of Defense and the Interior and the State Security Service. The detainees were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment.
However, it soon became known that during the investigation at least 8 suspects were killed by torture. Later, during the investigation, four of the killed were acquitted, and the investigators who fabricated the charges against them received up to 7 years in prison. -30C-
