Albania asks to recognize Kosovo and help with gas
Baku/15.11.22/Turan: Albania is counting on the support of Azerbaijan in recognizing Kosovo, Albanian President Bayram Bega said at a joint briefing with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who arrived in Tirana on November 15 on a state visit.
Kosovo is very important for Albania not only for stability but also for the progress of the entire region. He asked Azerbaijan to recognize Kosovo and not block its admission to international organizations, such as the Council of Europe.
The Albanian President expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in the fields of energy, infrastructure, tourism, agriculture and industry.
“Certainly, in the field of energy, the Ionian-Adriatic gas pipeline connecting Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, increases the geopolitical significance of our countries and demonstrates the diversification of gas supplies at the European level. We know that your country has experience in this area and Albania is ready to use the transit possibilities of its territory,” Bega continued.
He also expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for expressing its desire to open its embassy in Tirana. Albania has always supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and supported the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, Bega further noted.
Aliyev, for his part, noted Albania's transit opportunities in the context of plans to double Azerbaijani gas exports to Europe by 2027. At the same time, he pointed to the possibilities of Azerbaijan in creating a gas distribution infrastructure in Albania itself.
“The gas network in Albania has not yet been created. Azerbaijan is ready to participate in this as an investor. Today we will discuss this and other issues related to energy,” Aliyev said.
He also pointed out that Azerbaijan is closely cooperating with NATO, the member of which is Albania. “We have been actively participating in NATO operations in Afghanistan for many years and were among the first non-NATO countries to join the peacekeeping mission.
Albania, as a member of NATO, has always provided great support to relations between NATO and Azerbaijan,” Aliyev said. ---06B--

On Friday, the Baku Serious Crimes Court continued the proceedings in the case of opposition politician Tofiq Yagublu. Yagublu's lawyers requested the summons of additional witnesses, including members of the National Council of Democratic Forces, opposition activists, and Yagublu’s wife, Maya Yagublu. Contrary to the prosecution's claims that Yagublu was involved in handing over money to facilitate a visa for Elshan Huseynov in the Zabrat settlement, his lawyers argued that he was actually attending a National Council meeting in the Pirshaghi settlement at that time. Witnesses can confirm this. The court partially granted the request, deciding to call four additional witnesses. The next court session is scheduled for October 18.
