Ali Hasanov hospitalized in Turkey
Baku / 20.08.20 / Turan: Former assistant to the President of Azerbaijan on ideology Ali Hasanov was hospitalized in Turkey, several online publications reported this today. Hasanov himself said that he will have a third heart operation and valve replacement. The doctors will make a decision after the tests are completed in three days.
He had already undergone two heart surgeries earlier, but in the last week his health worsened again.
Ali Hasanov is known for his extremely negative image and as the author of many initiatives to suppress freedom of speech and expression in Azerbaijan. During his leadership in this area, many independent media were destroyed, journalists were arrested and the international image of Azerbaijan was seriously damaged. -02B-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
