Baku / 19.11.18 / Turan: The Sabail district court released the leader of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli, obliging him to pay a fine in the amount of 2,500 manat. He was found guilty of administrative misconduct - the organization and participation in an unauthorized procession.

Several hundred PFPA activists, who were waiting at the courthouse, greeted Kerimli with applause.

"Our cause is just, attempts to intimidate us and prohibit visiting the Alley of Martyrs are illegal, we do not recognize these bans and are not afraid," said Kerimli, addressing the crowd.

"I wrote on my Facebook page about the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the national movement and invited you to take part in laying flowers on the graves of those who started the struggle for the independence of the country with us. Thank you for responding. However, the authorities were afraid of this and decided to arrest us," he said.

Referring to the verdict of the court and the trial itself, he said that the ban on visiting the Alley of Martyrs was justified by the fact that "foreign tourists were going to visit this place," said Kerimli, calling the answer "mockery and stupidity."

"No one has the right to prohibit citizens from remembering heroes and we do not recognize such a ban and will visit the Alley of Martyrs when we consider it necessary," said Kerimli.

In turn, the head of the National Council, Jamil Hasanly, said the trial resembled the theater of the absurd when the judge announced without any explanation that Kerimli had been fined 2,500 manat and had literally escaped from the courtroom.-06D--
