Aliyev and Erdogan assessed the results of the Brussels meeting
Baku/08.04.22/Turan: On April 7, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made a phone call to President of the Republic of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
During the phone conversation, the sides discussed the trilateral meeting between the European Union, Azerbaijan and Armenia held in Brussels on April 6 at the initiative and with the participation of the President of the European Council Charles Michel.
President Ilham Aliyev praised the results of the meeting.
The head of state underlined the basic principles presented by Azerbaijan, as well as the decisions made to set up a working group between Armenia and Azerbaijan to prepare a peace agreement, including mutual recognition of territorial integrity and renunciation of territorial claims, and to establish a commission on delimitation of borders.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed satisfaction with the results achieved.
During the conversation, the sides noted that the signing of a peace agreement, and the construction of transport and communication lines between Armenia and Azerbaijan will contribute to ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region and the development and prosperity of the regional countries.
The presidents also exchanged views on various aspects of bilateral allied relations between Azerbaijan and Turkiye.-0-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
