Amendments Have Been Made To The Law to Support Families of Martyrs
Azerbaijan has enacted amendments to the law on perpetuation of the name of martyrs and benefits for their families, aiming to bolster support for military servicemen and those disabled in connection with the war.
The amendments, formalized under Law No. 2024-VIQD, were approved by President Ilham Aliyev and came into effect on June 28, 2024. These changes enhance the provisions of the existing law, which dates back to June 25, 2021, and are aligned with the broader goal of recognizing the sacrifices of martyrs and ensuring their families receive adequate support.
Under the new amendments, the President of Azerbaijan is empowered to exercise the relevant executive authority stipulated in Article 3 of the law. This article pertains to the perpetuation of the name of martyrs and the benefits conferred to their families. The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan has been designated to handle specific responsibilities, including the continuation of housing benefits for the families of deceased martyrs and the assignment of martyr status to eligible individuals.
These changes are part of a broader decree that also updates the list of services provided at unified coordination centers. These centers will now accept appeals related to maintaining housing benefits for the families of deceased martyrs and assigning martyr status posthumously.
President Aliyev emphasized the significance of these amendments in a statement, noting that they reflect the country's commitment to honoring the memory of martyrs and supporting their families. "These legal adjustments are crucial for ensuring that the families of our heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation are duly supported and their legacy is preserved," Aliyev stated.
The amendments also align with the constitutional guidelines of Azerbaijan, as referenced in the decree, ensuring that the implementation of these changes is both legally sound and in accordance with national principles.
The Cabinet of Ministers has been tasked with addressing any additional issues that may arise from the implementation of these amendments, ensuring a comprehensive support system for the families of martyrs and those affected by the war.
