Anar Rzayev will head the Writers' Union for another 5 years
Baku/26.10.22/Turan: Eighty-five-year-old Anar Rzayev was again re-elected to the post of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union f (AWU) or another five-year term. During the 13th Congress of the Writers' Union held on October 26, only his candidacy was put to the vote, although Emil Rasimolo and Fuad Jafarli were nominated as candidates for the post of head of the Union. They protested against the exclusion of their candidatures from the ballot, which caused controversy. Anar Rzayev wished them "success" at the next congress. Rzayev has been head of AWU since 1987.
The congress participants also adopted an appeal to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, thanking him for his attention and concern for Azerbaijani literature. The congress was held in the presence of Farah Aliyeva, Head of the Department for Humanitarian Policy of the Presidential Administration, Minister of Culture Anar Kerimov, and other representatives of the government and parliament. ----06B---

Activist Nijat Ibrahim, who was detained in Baku pre-trial detention center-1, inflicted numerous wounds on himself on November 20 in protest against unjustified criminal prosecution, his wife Parvin Ibrahim told Turan. According to her, on November 21, her husband called her and informed her that the day before he had inflicted incised wounds on himself with a piece of mirror. In particular, he cut his throat and ears.
