Are School Teachers “Mobilized” for Elections?
Baku / 05.02.20 / Turan: Unofficial sources from various constituencies report on the involvement of school workers in the electoral process.
In particular, it is alleged that teachers and parents of students of school number 31 in the city of Sumgait are being “mobilized” for the election day.
“Parents were called to meet with a deputy of the previous convocation. In addition, some teachers write to students that their parents have been appointed leaders of groups of 10 people who will vote in several precincts,” a source told Turan’s correspondent on condition of anonymity.
Responding the attempt by Turan’s correspondent to get a comment at this school, a person who introduced himself as the deputy director of school number 31 said over the phone that he would not give any information and would not answer such questions.
A group of citizens living in the Sabunchu district reports that the leadership of school number 311 in this district of Baku sent out turnout notices to parents registered in Lerik as place of residence.
“The school principal is also the head of the election commission of the 27th Sabunchu Second Polling Station. The notices have been sent from this site. The notice says the surname and name of the 4th grade student. They gave him a notice and said: let the parents come to vote on February 9,” said the same source.
Director of school number 311 Esmira Muradova told Turan that some notices were mistakenly written by the school teacher in the names of citizens who are not registered in this district.
According to her, she ordered to pick up the incorrectly written notices. The district election commission number 27 told Turan that they would verify the information and provide information as a result.
A similar situation occurred in school number 10 of Khirdalan City. The student’s parent, registered in Nakhchivan, was ordered to come and vote on the site at this school.
It was not possible to get comments from the DEC and the CEC. —06D-
