Nikol Pashinyan
Armenian leaders on normalization of relations with Azerbaijan
Baku/31.03.21/Turan: The Prime Minister and President of Armenia spoke about the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey. Thus, at a meeting of the Security Council on Tuesday, Nikol Pashinyan announced his country's interest in unblocking communications in the region for the long-term development of Armenia. “At the same time, the deblocking should not occur at the expense of the vital interests of the country,” he added.
He noted the changes in the region "due to known events", considering it important to analyze the new challenges and opportunities that exist in this situation.
Pashinyan stated that the prolonged blockade led to some alienation of Armenia from the region. Armenia has only one land route with a strategic partner, and the operation of this road is seasonal.
“The opening of communications will be one of the most important topics of today's discussion. The question is important, but it has many subtleties. We are determined to make decisions based on the interests of Armenia and ensuring the long-term and stable development of the country and the region," Pashinyan emphasized.
In order to talk about the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan, very painful issues need to be resolved, President Armen Sarkissian said in his turn in an interview with RBC. Before talking about the normalization of relations, Azerbaijan needs to return the Armenian prisoners. Sargsyan stressed that there is also the issue of the missing, of which there are many. "
“We have a social crisis; we have a moral and psychological crisis. Today I hear with regret that thousands of people are thinking about moving to Russia or getting a visa to the United States. Emigration can reach a crisis level. A moral crisis can lead to an identity crisis. The second part of the problem is emigration within the diaspora. In other words, people who were proud to be Armenians, felt themselves involved in the problems of Armenia, are more cautious today.
It is necessary to analyze the reasons for the defeat in the war and much more. First, we need to understand who we are, where we are today and what we want. We often confuse reality with what we want,” Sargsyan said. -0-
