Armenian opposition unveils action plan to repudiate 9 November 2020 statement
Baku/10.05.22/Turan: First ever since the opposition rallies began in late April, the political alliance of Armenian forces opposing Prime Minister N. Pashinyan has proclaimed an action plan it intends to implement by ousting the incumbent Armenian government.
On 9 May, at a rally in Yerevan's France Square, former National Assembly speaker Ishkhan Saghatelyan submitted an opposition's action plan: eliminate Pashinyan's authority, form an interim government and hold national elections in one to five years.
The opposition intends to attract strategic partner countries, to restore the Armenian armed forces, to create a new quality diplomacy, to reaffirm the commitment of the Republic of Armenia to be the guarantor of security and the right of Karabakh to self-determination, excluding the status of Karabakh within Azerbaijan and the enclave state without a secure land link with Armenia, to restore the negotiation process in the format and goals of the OSCE 1994.
Saghatelyan said that the new government should exclude the provision of corridors under the guise of unblocking communications at the expense of Armenian sovereignty and territorial integrity, border demarcation under the threat of force by Azerbaijan, in Armenia-Turkey relations "exclude any agreement that would cast doubt on the fact of depriving the Armenian people of their homeland and the recognition of genocide".
On France Square in Yerevan, David Apoyan, chairman of the Student Council of Yerevan State University, spoke of revanchist intentions: "We must create our future in Shusha and Hadrut. And "Rodina" Party chairman Artur Vanetsyan called on Armenians to restore the "liberation of Shushi" holiday celebrated by Armenians before the defeat in 2020.
The opposition's programme is made up of items rejecting the tripartite statement of 9-10 November 2020 signed by Prime Minister Pashinyan and Presidents Aliyev and Putin.
On May 4 the Russian Foreign Ministry urged Armenian politicians to actively promote the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan "primarily through the implementation of all provisions of the trilateral statements of November 9-20, January 11 and November 26-21 and through the conclusion of a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku"-0-
