Armenians shelled Azerbaijani positions in Karabakh and Nakhchivan
Baku/08.03.22/Turan: The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense has reported shootings in Karabakh and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) over the past 24 hours. Azerbaijani side returned fire.
Members of an illegal armed formation in the territory of Azerbaijan where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily deployed, at 6:45 p.m. on March 7 fired at positions in the direction of Papravend village of Agdam region with various caliber weapons, the press service of the country's Defense Ministry reported.
Besides, on March 8 at 07:30, the Armenian armed units shelled Azerbaijani positions near the border village of Kilid, the Ordubad district of the NAR.
"In both directions the Azerbaijani side took adequate response measures. At present the situation is stable and the operational situation is under full control of Azerbaijani units," reads the conclusion of the Defense Ministry's report.-06B-

In late December, the Nakhchivan Court for Serious Crimes concluded the trial of former Minister of Finance of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), Rafael Aliyev, and former head of the Nakhchivan Customs Committee’s department, Mansur Askerov. Both were accused of embezzling state budget funds in collusion with others. In his testimony, Askerov revealed that illegal fees were being collected for cargo and from passengers. Sahat Habibbeyli, appointed head of Nakhchivan Customs in 2020, had instructed Askerov to include only a portion of the collected funds in the Transport and International Relations (TIR) program.

The "Republican Alternative" Party (REAL) has proposed a program to reform local governance ahead of the municipal elections on January 29, aiming to expand opportunities for economic activity at the municipal level. The new program has been developed with consideration of the existing economic problems in the country.
