Authorities have not found the killers of Elmar Huseynov and Rafiq Tagi
Baku/03.03.14/Turan : A group of civil society activists and media of Azerbaijan appealed to President Ilham Aliyev calling uncover the murder of journalist Elmar Huseynov and journalist Rafiq Tagi.
The appeal was adopted on March 2 on the occasion of ninth anniversary of the murder of Elmar Huseynov, the editor "Monitor" magazine.
The message sent to Turan from the Institute of Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS) reads that the only way to put an end to impunity is to bring killers to justice, that has not yet happened.
Aliyev himself condemned the murder and said that it was directed at undermining stability in the country on the eve of the parliamentary elections and promised soon to disclose the murder.
Relevance to ensure transparency in this matter increases also in connection with the recent statement of the former head of the Ministry of Health Ali Insanov about the involvement of the current authorities in a number of political assassinations, including the murder of Elmar Huseynov.
The authors also call on president to provide the identification and punishment of those involved in physical attacks , dirty provocations against other journalists too.—06D--
