Azerbaijan and Pakistan will hold joint military exercises and create enterprises in the defense industry
Baku and Islamabad discuss the creation of joint ventures in the pharmaceutical and defense industries, stated the President Ilham Aliyev at a joint press conference after talks with Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif. Concerning the military cooperation, Aliyev said: "We have discussed plans to hold joint exercises by our armed forces and the creation of joint production of weapons. We want to purchase from Pakistan the most modern and high-tech weapons, and on this issue there is a mutual understanding," he said. Aliyev thanked Pakistan for its consistent support of Azerbaijan's position in the Karabakh conflict. In reply, Nawaz Sharif said that international and global problems should be resolved within the framework of international law. "We have a mutual understanding on the issues of Kashmir and Karabakh. Pakistan has a clear stance on Karabakh, we advocate for the liberation of all occupied territories of Azerbaijan, including Nagorno-Karabakh and the withdrawal of Armenian forces, the return of refugees to their homes," said the prime minister. Further, Nawaz Sharif said that the sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in military, energy, trade and other spheres, as well as within international organizations. -02D-
