Azerbaijan Recalls Ambassador from Scandinavian Countries
Baku / 12.11.18 / Turan: On November 12, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on recalling Adysh Mammadov from the post of Azerbaijani Ambassador to Sweden, as well as Norway and Finland.
Last Friday Norway decided to close its embassy in Azerbaijan and open it in Georgia. Following this, there were reports in the media that Azerbaijan, as a retaliatory step, would close its embassy in Swedenç also accredited in Norway and Finland.
Back on Saturday, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry expressed regret over the closure of the Norwegian Embassy, and stated that Baku would not close the embassy in Sweden.
However, Hikmet Hajiyev, Acting Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Presidential Administration, said later that Baku did not regret the closure of the Norwegian Embassy.
"Any country decides to open or close an embassy abroad, based on its interests. Termination of the activities of the Norwegian Embassy is a private affair of the government of this country. This is an ordinary case and it does not cause us regret," Hajiyev said.
At the same time, Hajiyev criticized the activities of the Embassy of Norway in Azerbaijan and the former Ambassador of this country, Steinar Gil. -06D--
