Elxan Nuriyev
Azerbaijan seeks extradition of former head of Gubadli from Poland
Baku/05.10.22/Turan: Elhan Nuriyev, the head of the executive power of the Gubadli region in 1992-93, under the rule of President Abualfaz Elchibey, was detained in Poland.
According to information from social networks, in Azerbaijan Nuriyev is accused of premeditated murder and abuse of power. He was put on the international wanted list. In the 1990s, Nuriev moved to Ukraine, where he accepted citizenship. According to some reports, he was an employee of the legal committee of the Supreme Council, chairman of the control and audit commission of the Union of Officers of Ukraine.
Nuriyev served as head of the Gubadli region from September 1992 to August 22, 1993. In September of the same year, he left Azerbaijan. In 1993, a lawsuit was filed against him on charges of abuse of office. It is assumed that the charge of murder was brought in connection with the case of the "Lastochka" group.
On August 31, 1993, members of the "Lastochka" reconnaissance group, during the occupation of the Gubadli region by Armenians, killed the prosecutor, the investigator of the prosecutor's office, the head of the regional police and his driver, the chairman of the court and a police officer.
In 1995, nine members of the “Lastochka" detachment were sentenced to death, but due to the abolition of the death penalty, the death penalty was replaced by life imprisonment.
During the trial, the defendants stated that the killings were due to the fact that officials tried to flee the area instead of organizing its defense.
A criminal case was initiated against Nureyev back in 1993 under the following Articles of the Criminal Code: the Article 120.2.10 (repeated premeditated murder), 29, 120.2.11 (attempted murder for the motives of banditry), 309.2 (exceeding official authority, entailing grave consequences), the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office told Turan. Nuriyev was brought in as an accused and put on the wanted list.
On October 2, Nuriyev was detained in Poland. The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan sent a request to the relevant authorities in Polandfor his extradition. --03B06--
