Azerbaijan was reminded that the opportunities offered by the aviation agreement are not eternal
Baku / 19.02.19 / Turan: Representatives of Azerbaijan should understand that the created opportunities are not eternal, said at a briefing on Tuesday the Director General of the European Commission for transport and mobility Henrik Holole commenting on the negotiations on the aviation agreement.
He said that during the talks in Baku, he noted the interest of Azerbaijan in the aviation agreement, and the next stage of negotiations will take place next month.
"I think that by the end of the year it will be possible to sign this agreement. I believe that if you have the will, you can find solutions to problems," he said.
Discussion of the aviation agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan providing for "open skies" started in 2013 and is soon interrupted. In 2017, the EU again offered Azerbaijan discussions on the treaty. Since then, despite the assurances of the parties that the agreement will be signed soon, the negotiations have not been completed. Critics in Azerbaijan accuse AZAL of unwillingness to move away from monopolistic policies and to allow low-cost airlines in Europe to enter the country. They believe that the company's management is slowing down the negotiations on the aviation agreement. -71D--
