Azerbaijani Activists in Iran Sentenced to 8 Years

Iran's Revolutionary Court in Maraga sentenced the activists of the National Movement of South Azerbaijan Abbas Velizade and Mehdi Kuhiyan respectively to 8 and 1 year in prison.

These young people from the city of East Azerbaijan Melikkend accused of "nationalist and anti-Iranian activities."

In particular, Velizade was incriminated storing a video interview with the expatriate leader of the Movement for the Sovereignty of South Azerbaijan Mahmud Chehreganly.

The second activist was accused of distributing media images of fans of FC Traktorsazi from Tabriz - the historical heart of South Azerbaijan.

Both young men were also active users of social networks. They were arrested at the end of last year, and their homes were raided. -05D06-
