Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry calls not to adopt sanctions against Baku
The head of the EU representation in Baku today Malena Mard was invited to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev told Mard that official Baku strongly condemns the resolution on Azerbaijan adopted by European Parliament on September 10.
According to Mammadguliyev, the adoption of the resolution was accompanied by procedural "shortcomings", and it was discussed at the plenary session "quickly" without discussion by the Committee.
"This biased and destructive document damages the relationship between the EU and Azerbaijan, and creates serious obstacle to the prospects of future relations," said Mammadguliyev.
According to him, the resolution is full of biased and distorted information on the state of human rights in Azerbaijan, and it a means of political pressure on Baku. Some provisions of the resolution have offensive that beyond ethical norms, Mammadguliyev said. Calls for targeted sanctions and visa bans are unfounded and in any case cannot be accepted, according to Mammadguliyev.
He also expressed regret that the European Commission did not try to resist the imposition of a draft resolution to a vote, but on the contrary, the statements of its senior representatives only contributed to this.
Mard has promised to bring the position of official Baku to Brussels.-1606D-
